A: Proposition A is a bond measure for the Midland County Utility District (MCUD) that, if approved, will provide funding for water and drainage system facilities. The District anticipates the bonds would be issued gradually over a 10-year period and would be repaid through property taxes levied by the District over a 40-year period.

A: The upcoming election is scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd. Early voting will take place from Tuesday, April 22nd through Tuesday April 29th. The deadline to register to vote in this election is Thursday, April 3.

Q: This is a large number. How much will taxes increase per homeowner if passed?
A: If approved by voters, the District intends to issue only as many bonds in each year as it can repay utilizing a 10-cent tax rate. Based upon such rate, a homeowner can expect to pay approximately $100 per year for each $100,000 in taxable value. The average home value in the District is $310,000, which would mean an increase of approximately $310 per year for the average homeowner. As time passes and taxable values increase, the District intends to issue additional bonds within such 10-cent tax rate.

Q: Will this bond fully solve the District’s water issues? Will you be coming back in 5 or 10 years for more?
A: The bond is intended to address current water system challenges. Future needs will depend on population growth, infrastructure conditions, and regulatory changes.
